tune: HEART OF OAK
2. The New MASSACHUSETTS Liberty Song

tune: THE BRITISH GRENADIERS
3. FATHER AND I WENT DOWN TO CAMP
Edward Bangs, ca. 1776
tune: YANKEE DOODLE

4. CHESTER -
Words and Music by
William Billings, 1770 and 1778
Important Fact:
Song no. 2 is now commonly titled "Free America"
This song text was written
by Dr. Joseph Warren in 1770
and
is more accurately given a different subtitle of
"Brave America" since those words are used
in every verse of the song not "Free America."
For example these words in the 3rd verse
from the original broadside sheet:
We led fair FREEDOM hither, when lo the Desert smil’d,
A Paradise of Pleasure, was open’d in the Wild;
Your Harvest bold AMERICANS! No Power shall snatch away,
Assert yourselves, yourselves, yourselves, my brave AMERICA.
